Hurricane Flags are Flying

ImageFrom Grand Isle, Louisiana to Destin, Florida, hurricane watches are in effect, as Karen begins a final approach towards the Gulf Coast. Given the high wind shear the system is encountering it is uncertain if Karen will actually reach hurricane status, but it is better to be safe than sorry in these cases!

The exact landfall location is still uncertain, but reasonably heavy rainfall, storm surges and coastal flooding are possible for a large swath of the Gulf through the weekend.

Further inland, we have our first named winter storm. Atlas will flex his muscles and bring blizzard conditions to parts of Wyoming, South Dakota and Western Nebraska through tomorrow. Over a foot of snow has been recorded in parts of the northern Rockies and even lower elevations of the High Plains from Atlas.
