Claims Adjusting in Winter

By November 15, 2019February 3rd, 2020No Comments

It’s November, and the holiday season has officially arrived! This is the time when high claim volume naturally starts to slow down. While we wait for hail, hurricanes and tornadoes to return next spring, this doesn’t mean there is no work for adjusters. Though winter does not typically produce catastrophic claims, it does have a spike in pipe freezes, water damage and house fire claims.

A common issue that homeowners face are bursting pipes, this occurs when water freezes in the pipe changing the shape, which can build pressure and result in a burst. Along with these disasters, almost one third of indoor house fires happen during the holidays. Overloaded electrical outlets, candles, heating, and highly flammable holiday decorations are just some of the culprits of these types of fires.

Outdoor mishaps are also prevalent during the winter season. Broken gutters and damaged roofs are common occurrences during this time of year. Trees also become over loaded with ice, causing branches to break and damage houses. Additionally hurricane claims can be long lasting; it is possible to be working on re-inspections during this time of the year.

As always, we look forward to working with the adjusters on our roster. For more information, please email us at staffing@eberls.com or calls us at (303) 988-6286.
