Cristobal- a formation only a meteorologist could love …

By August 26, 2014February 3rd, 2020No Comments

Cristobal does not look like your typical hurricane, to say the least. With no eye or low-level spiral bands, it is basically just a long line of thunderstorms. To quote Dr. Jeff Masters of the Weatherunderground, this system is giving hurricane Bertha “stiff competition for ugliest Atlantic hurricane of the century.” Ouch, if a hurricane had feelings, that would hurt! But, we would agree it’s pretty funky looking…

cristobal-aug25Following behind Cristobal we have 97, but none of the three reliable models predict cyclone genesis in the next five days. However, in the Gulf there is weak cold front extending from South Florida to Louisiana that is worth watching as it moves towards Texas late this week.

But wait, there’s more! A formidable wave will be coming of the coast of Africa on Friday and the GFS model is predicting it could reach tropical storm status almost immediately after it appears.

In the short term, it appears we will have plenty of tropical activity to watch!
