Mississippi River Flooding

By May 5, 2017February 3rd, 2020No Comments

The Mighty Mississippi is flexing its muscles in parts of the South and Midwest after heavy storms and rainfall over the weekend and this week. Flooding has closed hundreds of roads across Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois and shut down two major waterways, while sand bags are being stacked and disasters are being declared. Significant flooding is expected to continue this weekend on the Mississippi River south of St. Louis, including the towns of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Cairo, Illinois.
In Missouri about 200 homes have been impacted by the floods and another 1,500 could be in danger, according to St. Louis County’s emergency management chief. In Arkansas over 7,000 people have been evacuated and at least 50 homes have been destroyed. The floods have been blamed for at least nine deaths, according to the Associated Press.
Unfortunately, the flooding is expected to continue through the middle of May along the middle and lower Mississippi River and perhaps to the end of the month in some areas.
