Sweating our way into August

By July 30, 2015February 3rd, 2020No Comments

While the interior of the U.S. has been sweating it out for the last few days, the coasts will get a taste of scorching temperatures as we head into the weekend. Record highs are expected across the Northwest. In fact, forecasts are predicting the mercury will reach 100 degrees (or higher!) in parts of Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah and Idaho. So break out the sunscreen and kiddie pools folks- it’s going to be toasty!

For all you field adjusters out there, here are a few important tips about working in hot weather;

sun Stay Fresh-
We all know adjusters don’t sweat- they glisten 🙂  But the reality is, doing roof inspections in 90+ degree heat will leave your shirt saturated. Bring a spare or two with you at the start of the day and change when needed. A stash of wet wipes and deodorant come in handy too!

sun Hydrate. Water, water and more water. Try to avoid caffeinated or carbonated beverages and sugary drinks as they offer minimal hydration. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink. If you are thirsty you are already dehydrated.

 Schedule for cooler work. If possible, try to schedule inspections for early or later in the day to avoid the mid-day heat.

sun Cover up– A good hat and sunscreen can be your best friend on sweltering days. Hats should be either client approved or free of any logos/advertising.

Signs of heat illness can include; fatigue, nausea, headache, excessive thirst, muscle aches and cramps, weakness, confusion or anxiety, dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms lie down in the shade or a cooler area with your feet elevated above the heart and drink plenty of fluids. Seek medical attention if needed- heat illness can be life threatening.

Stay safe out there!
