Earlier this week, Crown Weather Services released a forecast for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season. This year El Nino conditions will likely influence the the level of activity. While this may mean a lower number of average storms, it does not indicate a reduced threat of at least one landfalling tropical storm or hurricane on the U.S. coast and/or the eastern Caribbean.
The forecast calls for;
- 10 named storms
- 6 hurricanes
- 3 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher)
According to Crown, the areas in the U.S. with the greatest potential to be impacted are; the lower Texas coast, central Gulf coast and coastal North Carolina.
