Danny Disappears- Next Up, Erika

By August 24, 2015February 3rd, 2020No Comments

In the end Danny could not defeat El Nino and was dissipated by dry air and high wind shear. So long Danny, nice knowing ya’…

Next up- 98L, which will likely become the latest depression of 2015. This morning the NHC gave 2-day and 5-day odds of development of 90% for 98, so Erika could appear on the scene shortly. The system will likely encounter a trough of low pressure capable of steering it to the north later this week.  So at this point, we are looking at  two big “IF’s“;

  • IF– 98 gets a ride on the trough it could pose a long range threat to Bermuda and Canada
  • IF– 98 doesn’t get picked up by the trough it may threaten the  Caribbean, Bahamas, and U.S. East Coast

In the Pacific, Hawaiian residents are breathing a collective sigh of relief as Tropical Depression Kilo is slowing moving away from the Islands. But they are not out of the woods yet as there are two tropical disturbances to the east, churning in the Eastern Pacific. The NHC has given them both an 80% chance of development in the next 5 days, so we will be keeping a close watch in the short term.

Welcome to the roller-coaster of hurricane season friends!
