Epic Flooding in the Carolinas

By October 6, 2015February 3rd, 2020No Comments

For the last five days the rain has been pouring over North & South Carolina causing disastrous flooding and claiming at least 16 lives. The highest rainfall total was an astounding 27 inches which was recorded in Mount Pleasant, SC. As of this morning 306 state-maintained roads and 163 bridges in South Carolina remain closed and  18 dams have been breached statewide.

Although the rain has stopped falling, things are still pretty ugly. As Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin said yesterday, ” I believe that things will get worse before they get better” referring to the cleanup and rebuilding process that will begin once the flood waters subside. “…  Some peoples’ lives as they know them will never be the same.” he added.

The National Weather Service has created a great animation that illustrates the “fire hose” or atmospheric river that descended upon the Carolinas from October 1st-5th- check it out here-  https://www.facebook.com/NWS/videos/10154326165029041/
