Atlantic Hurricane Season 2017

By April 7, 2017February 3rd, 2020No Comments

How time flies! We are already coming up on hurricane season 2017 and the first forecast has been released by the CSU Tropical Meteorology Project team. They predict 11 named storms including four hurricanes, with two of them being a Category 3 or higher.

The report also includes the following landfall probabilities;

  • 42% for the entire U.S. coastline
  • 24% for the U.S. East Coast including the Florida peninsula
  • 24% for the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle westward to Brownsville
  • 34% for the Caribbean

While a slightly below average season is anticipated at this point, it is still VERY early and there are many variables at play that can effect tropical activity. The forecast team is quick to remind us that these early forecasts have a high level of uncertainty.  “Everyone should realize that it is impossible to precisely predict this season’s hurricane activity in early April,” Colorado State University’s Tropical Meteorology Project report stated. That being said, we’re still going to be glued to the forthcoming forecasts
